11702 Carlson, Evans F. Letter to George E. Outland. Fair with much edge wear and creasing on the right margin, a date stamp and a hole left when a staple was removed. 8 x 10.5 inches, this 1946 typed letter, signed by Carlson, to Mr. Outland, references Carlson's recent heart attack and political developments in the California Democratic Party. Carlson was a USMC ( United States Marine Corps ) Colonel in WW2, head of Carlson's Raiders. Included is a copy of a letter Outland sent encouraging Carlson to run for Senator. Also included is a newspaper clipping of Carlson, Outland and Ed V. Izak as well as a telegram Carlson sent to Outland about Carlson's heart attack. The telegram has some tears. $300


"Wild Bill" Donovan, founder of the OSS in WW2 -- Signed Letter

11696 Donovan, William J., "Wild Bill" Letter to George E. Outland, 1950 . Good with some faint creasing and some small specks. 8.5 x 11 inchs, single page typed letter, July 25, 1950, signed Bill Donovan. George Outland was a campaign manager for James Roosevelt's campaign for California governor. This letter mentions Donovan visiting campaign head quarters trying to get ".... my check for gas and oil used during the latter days of the campaign." Donovan founded the OSS, Office of Strategic Survices, in WW2, and is known as the "father" of today's CIA. $500

Vice Admiral M. A. Mitscher, commander of Task Force 38 during WW2 -- Signed Letter


11700 Mitscher, M. A., Vice Admiral, U.S. Navy Letter to George E. Outland self 1945 signed by the author Good with some creasing. There are two date stamps and notations in pencil. 8 x 10.5 inches on a Navy Department Office Of The Chief Of Naval Operations letterhead, this letter from Admiral Mitscher, then Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Air), to Mr. Outland references the use of The Marine Corps Air Station at Santa Barbara, California after the war. Mitscher was a father of U.S. Naval Aviation. In WW2 he was an Admiral and commanded Task Force 38 in the battle of Philippine Sea. Autograph, M. A. Mitscher, Marc A. Each card says "Best Wishes From Berlin 1946-46." There are 5 cards: Leipzig Square, Frederick Street, The Reichstag, The Berlin Dome, and Brandenburger Gate. These cards are unused and in very good condition. $30 for all.
